Organizational Development Services Case Summaries

The role of organizational development consultant means enabling others to be successful. As such these case summaries are intended to help you understand the type of role that I have played for others and can for you. I do not imply that my work was any more than a single ingredient in collaborative efforts in each of these cases.

Shifting Capability in a Global Engineering Group

This biotech global engineering group within a large pharma company needed to make a dramatic shift:

from: being a central engineering services organization offering a pool of diverse engineering talent to individual sites in need.
to: being a central consulting resource for evaluating and advancing network-wide capital planning, methods and talent capability across the site network.

my role:
  - consulted with senior team to establish a solution and pathway for achieving culture shift and new capabilities throughout the organization;
  - facilitated senior team leadership development program for identifying and developing new skills at individual and team levels;
  - facilitated senior team development of new organization-wide core competencies for helping all staff grasp the significance of the shift and the new capabilities      they would need to succeed;
  - developed and facilitated training orienting staff to the new way of working;

This group succeeding in launching major strategic initiatives in capital prioritization, network standards for capital project management, communities of practice for nourishing cross-site engineering expertise and network knowledge management practices. According to skill, inclination and company need some staff were redeployed to local sites.

Executing a Site Merger Advocacy Strategy

This biotech site, like a dozen others around it, needed to influence the review board of its new parent company to assign it a viable role in the company's future.

my role:
  - facilitated offsite and onsite meetings for helping senior staff determine:
     o right strategic role for which to position the site;
     o assessment of key stakeholder views of the site and of site leaders' access to those stakeholders;
     o communication strategy for agreeing shared and customized messaging between site leaders and targeted stakeholders;
     o preparing the site for demonstrating its value through engaging visiting stakeholders through tour and presentation activities.

The site won the role of network 'launch and boutique product' site, its aspiration, upon conclusion of the network review.
